Niort, France

1992

The streets were levelled using only one material - Glassphalt, an asphalt with small pieces of crushed recycled glass. The dragons 'swam' from the river network in Niort towards the main square, creating a unique urban integration for vehicular traffic and pedestrians. In the dark wet hours, their bronze bodies would shine while the streets would reflect the sparkle of the broken glass.

The dragons symbolised the heritage of the town and have become a

well-loved addition to the urban fabric.

Work completed while at Jacques Hondelatte Architectes
